Owning a tactical helmet is as important as keeping it clean. Proper maintenance and use largely affect the lifespan of the tactical helmet. So, you’re wondering “How exactly can I take care of my tactical helmet?”
Well, you’re in luck. Here’s a short guide on how you can get the best out of your tactical helmet through proper maintenance culture.
- Read the Instruction

Before you make use of any of the instructions that we would be providing below, it is important that you check out the specific maintenance procedure provided by the manufacturer. These instructions often come in a manual or documentation attached to the helmet upon purchase. It is meant to serve as a guide for the specific maintenance demands of that tactical helmet.
- Helmet Shell

Start by cleaning your helmet shell with fresh water and soap. Preferably, a mild soap should be used with a soft brush or cloth. When done, rinse properly to remove all dirt and remnant soap lather. Air dry the tactical helmet in a cool dry place without the direct hit of sunlight or other form of heat sources. You can inspect your shell afterwards.
- Retention System
To clean it, start by detaching the retention system from the helmet. It is highly recommended that you hand wash the system using fresh water and a mild soap. Follow the same drying method as above.
- Suspension Systems and Pads
First off, take out the pads by peeling off the edges from the fasteners. If the pads used are semi-permeable, then try squeezing out any moisture in it. Wash with hand using a mild soap and fresh water. Squeeze out moisture once again and follow the same drying process.
- Helmet Accessories
Unmount helmet accessories before commencing cleaning. Endeavor to follow the manufacturer’s instruction for maintaining each piece. Unless it is necessary that they be cleaned, it is recommended that the shroud and rails are left un-detached. Wash using a soft brush to take out possible dirt.
